Feb 10: Luca's surgery went well

on Fri, 02/10/2012 - 23:30

Everyone has been asking me how the surgery went for Luca. It was a successful surgery with no complications. We spent the first night at the hospital (well, my awesome father-in-law Fred Hogg did). Luca was in a considerable amount of pain and it wasn’t an easy evening/overnight. He came home on Wednesday morning and has been getting better with each day. He has recovered quicker than most kids would have with this procedure so thanks for your prayers—they definitely made a difference.

Blessings,

Jimmy

Please pray for Luca! Feb 6.

on Mon, 02/06/2012 - 11:37

Just wanted to ask if everyone could keep Luca in their prayers as he will be having minor surgery tomorrow, Tuesday (tonsillectomy). He will have his tonsils and adenoids taken out. Although this is a minor surgery, he will be required to stay overnight at CHEO. Please pray that he heals quickly and has a speedy recovery. Also, please pray that there are no complications especially with all the challenges that Luca currently has.

Thanks so much for your faithful prayers over the last while as Luca has been more content than he has been. He still has his moments where he is agitated, but they have been for shorter periods of time. Also, he has been sleeping better, which has been a big plus for us as a family.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Blessings,

Jimmy

Bridlewood Trails Visit a hit!

on Wed, 12/21/2011 - 11:19

About 25 folks from Chapel Ridge visited the residents of Bridlewood Trails on Sunday Dec 18th and held a service consisting of carols, scripture readings and a short talk from Pastor Phil.  We enjoyed it and the residents seemed to also!  We hope we can go back some day.

Luca Update - Nov 27th

on Mon, 11/28/2011 - 12:50

Everyone has been asking me how Luca has been doing so here is an update!  There have been some positive changes and some very difficult challenges that we have been facing recently.

We have definitely seen some positive changes with regards to his mobility. While he is mainly on his bed for most of the day, he is moving parts of his body more often as he is becoming stronger with each passing day.

Throughout the day, he spends some time on his specialized stroller. He can only remain sitting for small periods of time (20 minutes at a time). He likes to be held, but is not getting any lighter :P He also likes to sit and watch shows with mom, dad, and especially grandpa or grandma.

He is doing well at his pre-school at the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre. He goes 2 and a half hours a day Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays.

His bone flap is still exposed, and the experts are in process of looking into possible solutions. They want to make the right decision and with this being such a delicate matter, they don’t want to rush into it.

Here are some of the challenges we are facing and would ask that you make it a matter of prayer every day!

With Luca being more aware, he has increasingly become more agitated and frustrated throughout the day. At times, he will cry up to 8 hrs a day and cannot be consoled no matter what we do. This has been going on for the last 4 weeks or so and it has definitely taken a toll on us as a family, especially Katy and me. Luca has also been waking up around 3am almost every morning which means we are not sleeping very much. When he is up, he usually cries and can get very loud. Sometimes our hearts break as we feel helpless—this has not been an easy time for us. The doctors are in the process of tweaking meds to see if it will help with have a better overall day along with him sleeping for longer periods of time. We have not seen any change thus far, and ask that you really pray for us during this time.

Please pray that God:

1.       would give us grace to walk through one day at a time

2.       would give us strength and patience to deal with Luca’s challenges each day

3.       would give doctors the wisdom with regards to Luca’s meds situation

4.       would give Luca his peace while walking through this difficult time

5.       would give us rest (sleep) and wisdom as to how to work with Luca

6.       would give us his love to work in our hearts toward each other and Luca

If you can think of any other ways to pray for us, please do so…

Thank you so much for all your support and prayers for us!

Blessings,

Jimmy.

Luca touching the lives of many...

on Fri, 04/08/2011 - 23:47

Luca’s story is touching so many people and it’s amazing in the midst of such a difficult time, how God can take a situation and use it for his purposes. This evening when I watched Luca’s story done by Catherine Lathem from CTV, I was so touched and I cried through most if not all of it. It was more tears of joy of how precious Luca is and how much of a fighter he is. I just keep loving him more and more with each day. I e-mailed Catherine from CTV to let her know she did a great job and she e-mailed me back and said that many people that work at CTV were so touched by Luca’s story and will be praying for him. If you haven’t had a chance to see the interview click on this link: http://ottawa.ctv.ca/  Once you open the page, click on the link that says, CTV Ottawa: Catherine Lathem on a toddler’s recoveryunder the CTV News Video Player.

Blessings,

Jimmy
