Luca Update - Nov 27th
Everyone has been asking me how Luca has been doing so here is an update! There have been some positive changes and some very difficult challenges that we have been facing recently.
We have definitely seen some positive changes with regards to his mobility. While he is mainly on his bed for most of the day, he is moving parts of his body more often as he is becoming stronger with each passing day.
Throughout the day, he spends some time on his specialized stroller. He can only remain sitting for small periods of time (20 minutes at a time). He likes to be held, but is not getting any lighter :P He also likes to sit and watch shows with mom, dad, and especially grandpa or grandma.
He is doing well at his pre-school at the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre. He goes 2 and a half hours a day Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays.
His bone flap is still exposed, and the experts are in process of looking into possible solutions. They want to make the right decision and with this being such a delicate matter, they don’t want to rush into it.
Here are some of the challenges we are facing and would ask that you make it a matter of prayer every day!
With Luca being more aware, he has increasingly become more agitated and frustrated throughout the day. At times, he will cry up to 8 hrs a day and cannot be consoled no matter what we do. This has been going on for the last 4 weeks or so and it has definitely taken a toll on us as a family, especially Katy and me. Luca has also been waking up around 3am almost every morning which means we are not sleeping very much. When he is up, he usually cries and can get very loud. Sometimes our hearts break as we feel helpless—this has not been an easy time for us. The doctors are in the process of tweaking meds to see if it will help with have a better overall day along with him sleeping for longer periods of time. We have not seen any change thus far, and ask that you really pray for us during this time.
Please pray that God:
1. would give us grace to walk through one day at a time
2. would give us strength and patience to deal with Luca’s challenges each day
3. would give doctors the wisdom with regards to Luca’s meds situation
4. would give Luca his peace while walking through this difficult time
5. would give us rest (sleep) and wisdom as to how to work with Luca
6. would give us his love to work in our hearts toward each other and Luca
If you can think of any other ways to pray for us, please do so…
Thank you so much for all your support and prayers for us!
Blessings,
Jimmy.
